The Town Council has recently made grants to a number of local voluntary bodies - Battle Area Community Transport, Battle Museum, Battle Memorial Hall, Netherfield Village Hall, Netherfield Church and the Town Band. A small contribution has also been made towards the cost of running this year's Scarecrow Festival.

With effect from 1 January 2012 the Town Council has taken over responsibility for the Watch Oak allotment site from the District Council. For further information about our allotments please select "Allotments" from the main menu.

The main work creating the hard surface footpaths has been completed together with repairs to some fencing and steps. The first stage of replanting will take place in the early spring using a mixture of primroses, snowdrops, foxgloves, bluebells, wood anemones and aconites. General tidying up of the wood, including litter clearance will also be undertaken shortly and if you would like to help with this please contact the Town Clerk.

The Council has set a precept for 2012-13 of £187,770. This is a small increase over the previous year but is necessary in order to improve facilities at the recreation ground including new fencing for the children's play area.

This year's entries into the South & South East in Bloom competition have now been made by the Group. In addition to entering the town as a whole the Almonry garden has been nominated in the Small Parks category and the cemetery in a new category for cemeteries. The Group will also soon be launching this year's local Battle in Bloom competition. As usual there will be awards for the Best Front Garden, Best Hidden Garden and Best Container Garden. At the Parish Assembly on 9 May the Town Council will be presenting its annual Community Awards. If you would like to make a nomination please contact the Town Clerk. Nominations of young people would be particularly welcome.
